The following series was created in collaboration with Catherine Monahon. We used scans of my Diffusion Tensor Images (DTIs) to create embroideries that map the ebb and flow of the brain. DTIs map the flow of water through the brain, and are colorized by neurophysicists to represent the direction of the flow. I was able to access this technology through the generosity of neuroscientists and researchers at UCSF.
The reverse of "Poetry," "In Motion" was created by embroidering the sagittal view of the artist's DTI on the back side of the fabric.
